Karpenter now supports Amazon Application Recovery Controller zonal shift

This article announces Karpenter support for Amazon Application Recovery Controller (ARC) zonal shift and zonal autoshift capabilities in Amazon EKS.

• Karpenter now integrates with ARC zonal shift to redirect traffic from impaired availability zones
• Supports both manual zonal shifts and fully automated zonal autoshifts with practice runs
• Stops new capacity provisioning in impaired AZ during zonal shift activation
• Halts voluntary disruptions like consolidation and drift in affected zones
• Prevents disruptions in healthy zones dependent on impaired zone scheduling
• Resumes normal operations when zonal shift expires or is canceled
• Enable via ENABLE_ZONAL_SHIFT setting in Karpenter configuration

This enhancement improves Kubernetes application availability by automating traffic redirection during AZ impairments without requiring custom ARC resources.
