This article announces that Amazon ECS now supports pause and continue controls for service deployments, enabling manual decision points during deployment progression.
- Pause deployments at critical stages using new PAUSE deployment lifecycle hooks
- Emit EventBridge events to trigger automation, approvals, or validation processes
- Continue or roll back deployments using ContinueServiceDeployment API
- Configure timeout durations up to 14 days with automatic actions
- Works with rolling, blue/green, linear, and canary deployment strategies
- Available via Console, CLI, SDKs, CloudFormation, CDK, and Terraform
- Available in all AWS commercial and GovCloud regions
Amazon ECS pause and continue controls enable manual approval workflows and operational checks while maintaining native deployment strategies and traffic shifting capabilities.
