This article announces the availability of the new Amazon EC2 r8ib.96xlarge instance for healthcare workloads, specifically optimized for Epic's Chronicles Operational Database.

  • Delivers 28% GRefs/s increase over previous generation r8i instances
  • Features up to 384 vCPUs and 3TiB DDR5 memory with optimized bandwidth
  • Incorporates 6th generation AWS Nitro cards for enhanced EBS I/O performance
  • Provides up to 1,440K IOPs and 37.5 GB/s bandwidth with sub-millisecond latency
  • Represents 10x improvement in ECP scalability since July 2021 (18M to 180M GRefs/s)

The r8ib.96xlarge instance enables large healthcare organizations to run Epic workloads on AWS that were previously limited to on-premises infrastructure.
