Annual .NET target updates for the AWS SDK for .NET
Developer Tools Blog
This article announces that the AWS SDK for .NET will adopt an annual schedule starting November 2026 for adding and removing .NET build targets to keep the SDK current with the .NET ecosystem.
- New .NET targets added annually in November, aligned with Microsoft's release cycle
- SDK will maintain at most two LTS versions; oldest LTS removed when new LTS is added
- Yearly updates released as minor SDK versions (V4.1, V4.2, etc.) with unchanged assembly version for backward compatibility
- November 2026 (V4.1): Add .NET 10 LTS and .NET 11 STS, remove .NET Core 3.1
- Developers on unsupported .NET versions can stay on previous SDK minor version or fall back to .NET Standard 2.0
- Provides one additional year of AWS SDK support after Microsoft end-of-life for each .NET version
This predictable schedule eliminates customer confusion, reduces technical debt, and enables faster adoption of modern .NET features and performance improvements.
