Big Data Blog

Amazon OpenSearch Service extends Extended Support for legacy Elasticsearch and OpenSearch versions through November 7, 2027, providing additional migration time with updated pricing and announces support timelines for new versions.

  • Extended Support for Elasticsearch 1.5–7.8, OpenSearch 1.0–1.2, and 2.3–2.9 extended 12 months to November 7, 2027
  • Extended Support surcharge for these versions will double instance pricing from November 7, 2026; storage costs unaffected
  • Elasticsearch 5.6 continues at standard Extended Support rate of $0.0065 per Normalized Instance Hour
  • New versions (ES 6.8, 7.9, 7.10, OS 1.3, 2.11–2.19) receive Standard and Extended Support timelines with predictable costs
  • Last versions of major families receive 3 years Extended Support; other minor versions receive 1 year at standard rate
  • New domain creation blocked after Extended Support ends for each version

AWS recommends upgrading to latest OpenSearch versions to access new features, performance improvements, and security enhancements while managing support costs.
