Introducing advanced Kubernetes control plane configuration in Amazon EKS

This article announces advanced Kubernetes control plane configuration in Amazon EKS, enabling direct customization of scheduler, controller manager, and API server parameters without operational overhead.

  • Configure pod placement strategies using MostAllocated scoring to pack pods on well-utilized nodes, reducing compute costs
  • Customize HPA sync period (10–15 seconds) for faster autoscaling on Provisioned Control Plane clusters
  • Adjust event retention duration (10–60 minutes) to balance debugging with etcd storage efficiency
  • Define NodePort service ranges (10260–32767) to migrate legacy applications without code changes
  • Supported on Kubernetes 1.31+ clusters at no additional charge; some parameters require Provisioned Control Plane

Cluster administrators can now optimize resource utilization, improve autoscaling responsiveness, and reduce storage pressure through direct control plane configuration via existing AWS APIs.
