News

Amazon EC2 now supports creating Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) with local snapshots from instances running on AWS Outposts, simplifying data residency compliance.

  • Create AMIs with snapshots stored on Outposts or in parent AWS Region
  • EC2 automatically determines target Outpost from instance location
  • No manual Outpost ARN specification required
  • Integrate AMI creation into existing backup and lifecycle workflows
  • Available in all AWS Regions supporting Outposts local snapshot storage

This capability enables customers to meet data residency requirements while managing AMI creation for Outposts instances more efficiently.
