IAM Roles Anywhere now provides a Java plugin for the AWS SDK

News

This article announces the availability of a Java plugin for AWS SDK v2 that enables workloads running outside AWS to obtain temporary AWS credentials directly within the Java application process.

  • Plugin runs in the same JVM as your application, eliminating separate credential helper processes
  • Automatically resolves temporary credentials on SDK service client builder configuration
  • Handles CreateSession calls and automatic credential refresh before expiration
  • Supports RSA, Elliptic Curve (EC), and ML-DSA key types
  • Requires Java 8 or higher with no additional charges
  • Available in all AWS Regions including GovCloud, European Sovereign Cloud, and China Regions

The Java plugin simplifies credential management for external workloads by integrating directly into the application process without requiring separate configuration or helper processes.
