This article announces TCP Reset for Gateway Load Balancer, a new feature that reduces traffic interruptions when security appliances or targets fail.
- TCP Reset packets notify clients when targets become unhealthy, deregister, or flows idle out, reducing interruptions from minutes to seconds
- Triggers include target health failures, target deregistration, and TCP idle timeout expiration
- Enable via target group attributes (send_tcp_reset.on_unhealthy.enabled, send_tcp_reset.on_deregistration.enabled) and listener attributes
- New CloudWatch metric TCP_ELB_Reset_Count monitors reset activity during failover events
- Requires 5-tuple flow stickiness and works with existing GWLB features like TCP idle timeout
- Available at no additional charge in all AWS regions where GWLB is supported
