Amazon RDS for SQL Server now supports Multi-AZ deployments using Always On Availability Groups for SQL Server Developer Edition, enabling high availability testing without Enterprise Edition licensing costs.
- Multi-AZ maintains synchronous standby replica in different Availability Zone with automatic failover
- Validate high availability architecture and test failover behavior in non-production environments
- Developer Edition includes all Enterprise Edition functionality at no license cost
- Available on SQL Server 2019, 2022, and 2025 Enterprise Developer Edition
- SQL Server 2025 Standard Developer Edition does not support this feature
Organizations can now build and test production-equivalent high availability configurations using Developer Edition without incurring Enterprise Edition licensing expenses.
