This article announces two new connection capabilities for Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio: Iceberg REST Catalog connections and IAM authentication for Amazon DocumentDB.

  • Iceberg REST Catalog connections support external Apache Iceberg catalogs including Snowflake Polaris and Databricks Unity Catalog
  • Browse catalogs in Data Explorer and read/write data in Visual ETL using OAuth2 or bearer token authentication
  • IAM authentication for DocumentDB eliminates need to store database credentials in connections
  • DocumentDB connections use IAM roles validated via AWS STS, requiring version 5.0+ with TLS enabled
  • Both capabilities available at no additional cost across all AWS Regions where SageMaker Unified Studio operates

These enhancements enable data teams to connect to broader sets of governed data sources with credential-less authentication across projects.
