Amazon EKS managed node groups now support AWS Local Zones

News

Amazon EKS now supports managed node groups for Kubernetes workloads running on AWS Local Zones, offering several key benefits:

  • Enables node provisioning and lifecycle automation in Local Zones
  • Brings Kubernetes applications closer to end-users for improved latency
  • Simplifies cluster operations across AWS Local Zones and Regions
  • Allows creation of managed node groups using EKS APIs, AWS Console, or infrastructure-as-code tools
  • No additional cost - users only pay for provisioned AWS resources

This update provides an easy-to-use abstraction for managing EC2 instances and Auto Scaling groups in Local Zones, streamlining Kubernetes cluster management.
