Amazon EKS managed node groups now support EC2 Auto Scaling warm pools
News
This article announces that Amazon EKS managed node groups now support EC2 Auto Scaling warm pools, enabling faster node provisioning for burst traffic and time-sensitive workloads.
- Warm pools maintain pre-initialized EC2 instances ready for rapid scale-out
- Reduces node provisioning latency by skipping cold-start initialization
- Instances can be configured as Stopped (cheaper) or Running (faster)
- Reuse on scale-in returns instances to warm pool instead of terminating
- Works seamlessly with Cluster Autoscaler without additional configuration
- Enable via EKS API, AWS CLI, Console, or CloudFormation
- Available in all AWS Regions except China regions
EKS warm pools significantly reduce startup delays for applications with variable demand, improving performance for burst workloads.
