Introducing CloudFront Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) Origins: Shield your web applications from public internet

Networking & Content Delivery Blog

AWS has introduced CloudFront Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) Origins, a new feature that enhances web application security by allowing content delivery from private VPC subnets without public internet exposure.

  • Enables hosting applications in private VPC subnets with CloudFront as the only entry point
  • Eliminates the need to expose applications on public internet
  • Reduces attack surface and improves security posture
  • Provides seamless integration with existing or new CloudFront distributions
  • Leverages AWS Backbone Network for optimized performance and low latency

The feature allows for easy migration of existing applications to private origins, with a step-by-step process that includes creating VPC origins, testing in a staging environment, and promoting to production.
