Amazon CloudWatch Logs launches the ability to transform and enrich logs

News

Amazon CloudWatch Logs has launched a new log transformation and enrichment feature to improve log analytics at scale.

  • Customers can standardize logs from various sources into a consistent JSON structure
  • Pre-configured templates available for AWS services like WAF and Route53
  • Supports custom log transformers using native parsers like Grok
  • Ability to rename attributes and add metadata such as accountId and region
  • Transformations can be configured natively within CloudWatch without complex pipelines

The feature is available in all AWS Commercial Regions at no additional cost beyond standard log ingestion, with archival costs based on transformed log size. Transformers can be set up through the CloudWatch Console, AWS CLI, CloudFormation, CDK, and SDKs.
