Amazon S3 adds new default data integrity protections
News
Amazon S3 has introduced new default data integrity protections for object uploads, enhancing its existing data durability features.
- New AWS SDKs automatically calculate CRC-based checksums during data transmission
- S3 independently verifies checksums before accepting uploaded objects
- CRC-based whole-object checksums are now stored in object metadata, even for multipart uploads
- Supports six checksum algorithms: MD5, CRC64NVME, CRC32, CRC32C, SHA-1, and SHA-256
- No additional cost or application changes required
These new protections improve data integrity validation during upload and storage, following best practices for data durability across all AWS Regions.
