AWS Compute Optimizer now expands idle and rightsizing recommendations for Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling groups

News

AWS Compute Optimizer has expanded its idle and rightsizing recommendations to include Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling groups, providing enhanced cost and performance optimization capabilities.

  • Analyzes Auto Scaling groups' scaling policies, instance configurations, and utilization metrics
  • Identifies most cost-efficient instance types across multiple instance groups
  • Recommends optimizing CPU-to-memory ratio for groups with scaling policies
  • Flags Auto Scaling groups with consistently low CPU and network usage as idle
  • Helps users save costs by suggesting scale-down opportunities

The feature is available in most AWS regions, excluding GovCloud and China regions, and aims to simplify optimization without requiring specialized engineering resources.
