Amazon EC2 has announced Time-based Copy for Amazon Machine Images (AMIs), a new feature that enables precise control over AMI copy operations.

  • Customers can now specify AMI copy completion times between 15 minutes and 48 hours
  • Helps meet compliance and disaster recovery time objectives
  • Provides monitoring through EventBridge and a new CloudWatch metric
  • Available in all AWS commercial and GovCloud (US) Regions
  • Accessible via AWS Console, CLI, and SDKs

This feature addresses previous challenges with unpredictable AMI copy durations, giving customers more control and visibility into their image migration processes.
