Data masking and performance improvements in AWS DMS 3.5.4
Database Blog
AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS) version 3.5.4 introduces two major enhancements: data masking for enhanced security and improved data validation performance.
- Data Masking Features:
- Three data transformation rules: Digits Mask, Digits Randomize, and Hashing Mask
- Enables secure handling of sensitive information during database migrations
- Helps comply with data protection regulations like GDPR
- Can mask columns like account numbers, phone numbers, and email addresses
- Enhanced Data Validation Performance:
- Uses fast partition validation technique
- Redistributes resource usage from replication instance
- Potentially decreases network usage
- Available for specific migration paths like Oracle to PostgreSQL
Performance testing showed a 91% reduction in task memory usage and 95% reduction in CPU utilization compared to the previous version.
