AWS News Blog
AWS has announced the general availability of Amazon EBS Provisioned Rate for Volume Initialization, a feature that accelerates data transfer from EBS snapshots to new EBS volumes.
- Allows users to specify volume initialization rates between 100-300 MiB/s
- Enables faster creation of performant EBS volumes with predictable initialization times
- Can be used when launching EC2 instances, creating volumes from snapshots, and replacing root volumes
- Supports all EBS volume types
- Charges are based on full snapshot size and specified initialization rate
The feature can be configured through the EC2 console, AWS CLI, and supports integrations like EBS Container Storage Interface (CSI) driver.
