Amazon EC2 now enables you to delete underlying EBS snapshots when deregistering AMIs

Amazon EC2 has introduced a new feature that simplifies AMI management by allowing automatic deletion of underlying EBS snapshots during AMI deregistration.

  • Previously, users had to manually delete EBS snapshots after deregistering AMIs
  • This often led to abandoned snapshots and unnecessary storage costs
  • The new capability automatically removes associated snapshots when deregistering
  • Available in all AWS commercial regions, including GovCloud and China regions
  • No additional cost for this feature

Users can now deregister AMIs through EC2 Console, CLI, API, or SDK with improved storage management and simplified workflow.
