Amazon DynamoDB Streams introduces a new API feature for faster and more efficient stream shard discovery

News

Amazon DynamoDB Streams has introduced a new ShardFilter parameter in the DescribeStream API to improve data streaming efficiency and performance.

  • Simplifies discovery of child shards after a parent shard closes
  • Enables more responsive and cost-effective stream processing
  • Supports near real-time tracking of item-level changes in DynamoDB tables
  • Available in all AWS Regions
  • Compatible with AWS API, Kinesis Client Library 3.0, and Apache Flink connector

The feature helps applications efficiently transition between shards, reducing latency and simplifying stream data consumption for use cases like event-driven applications, data replication, and analytics.
