AWS Direct Connect now supports 4-byte Autonomous System (AS) numbers for virtual interfaces, expanding networking capabilities for customers.

  • Increases AS number range from 65,536 to 4,294,967,294 possible numbers
  • Supports complex, multi-tenant network topologies
  • Enables consistent AS numbering across entire network infrastructures
  • Complies with RFC 6793 standards
  • Available globally across all AWS regions and virtual interface types

This enhancement provides more flexibility for network architects by dramatically expanding the available AS number space for Direct Connect virtual interfaces.
