Amazon EC2 Allowed AMIs setting adds new parameters for enhanced AMI governance

Amazon EC2 has expanded the Allowed AMIs account-wide setting with four new parameters to enhance AMI governance and security:

  • Marketplace codes to limit Marketplace AMI usage
  • Deprecation time to restrict outdated AMIs
  • Creation date to control AMI age
  • AMI names to enforce specific naming patterns

These new parameters help organizations reduce risks associated with launching non-compliant or unauthorized Amazon Machine Images. The feature is available across all AWS regions, including China and GovCloud regions, and can be configured using Declarative Policies for enterprise-wide AMI governance.
