Amazon ECS announces IPv6-only support

News

Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) has introduced IPv6-only support, enabling customers to run tasks exclusively on IPv6 addresses without requiring IPv4.

  • Tasks can now be launched in IPv6-only subnets across all launch types
  • Supports awsvpc, bridge, and host networking modes
  • Removes IPv4 address dependency for containerized applications
  • Helps organizations meet IPv6 adoption and regulatory requirements
  • Solves scaling challenges related to IPv4 address limitations

To implement, customers can create IPv6-only subnets in their VPC and launch ECS services or tasks, with Amazon ECS automatically handling network provisioning.
