EC2 Auto Scaling introduces instance lifecycle policy

This article announces a new instance lifecycle policy feature for EC2 Auto Scaling that allows customers to retain instances when lifecycle hooks fail or timeout.
- Configure retention-triggers to keep instances in retained state for manual intervention
- Prevents automatic termination when lifecycle hook timeout elapses or failures occur
- Supports graceful shutdown for stateful applications running on Auto Scaling groups
- Lifecycle hooks enable custom actions like saving state, closing connections, backing up data
- Available in US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Europe (Ireland), Asia Pacific (Singapore)
The instance lifecycle policy provides greater confidence in managing graceful instance termination by allowing manual intervention instead of automatic termination on hook failures.
