Deploying VCF 9.1 on Amazon EVS with End-to-End Automation

This article presents an AWS-published automation toolkit for deploying VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1 on Amazon Elastic VMware Service (EVS) in Self Deployed Mode, where AWS provisions infrastructure but customers must deploy VCF themselves.
- Three-phase deployment: Terraform for AWS infrastructure, Python for EVS environment and hosts, Python SDK for VCF bringup and NSX Edge routing
- Reduces multi-hour manual VCF installation to three CLI commands plus 30 minutes of manual ESXi configuration
- Automates VPC, Route 53 DNS, Route Server BGP, 3 bare-metal ESXi hosts, and complete VCF stack including vCenter, SDDC Manager, NSX Manager, and VCF Operations
- Deploys NSX Tier-0/Tier-1 gateways with dynamic route propagation between NSX overlay segments and VPC route tables
- All VCF passwords auto-generated and stored in AWS Secrets Manager; infrastructure defined as code for repeatability and auditability
- Total deployment time approximately 3.5 to 6 hours; individual steps are idempotent for safe debugging and reruns
The toolkit enables repeatable, secure, and auditable VCF 9.1 deployments on EVS with minimal manual intervention, suitable for development, production, and customer demonstration environments.
