Amazon CloudWatch agent adds support for journald logs

News

This article announces support for collecting systemd journal (journald) logs with the Amazon CloudWatch agent on Linux instances.

  • Read journald entries natively and send directly to CloudWatch Logs without disk files
  • Preserves structured metadata including systemd unit, priority, and process information
  • Filter logs by systemd units, journal priority levels, and field matches
  • Apply regular expression filters to reduce noise and control log volume
  • Available in all AWS Commercial Regions and GovCloud(US) regions

The CloudWatch agent now natively supports journald, simplifying log collection from modern Linux distributions that use systemd journal as their primary logging system.
