Amazon Aurora has reduced cross-Region Global Database Switchover time to typically under 30 seconds for both MySQL and PostgreSQL, improving application availability and disaster recovery.
- Global Database enables a single Aurora cluster to span multiple AWS Regions
- Switchover process is fully managed and designed for planned regional rotations
- Improves business continuity by minimizing writer unavailability during region switches
- For MySQL, upgrade to version 3.09 or higher
- For PostgreSQL, upgrade to versions 16.8, 15.12, 14.17, 13.20, or higher
- No additional configuration required after upgrading
This enhancement provides faster recovery time and more seamless cross-Region database operations for globally distributed applications.
