Migration and Modernization Blog

AWS has announced the public preview of Amazon Elastic VMware Service (Amazon EVS), a new service that allows customers to run VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) directly within Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC).

  • Available in 5 regions: US East (N. Virginia and Ohio), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), and Europe (Frankfurt)
  • Enables migration of non-production workloads using VCF license portability
  • Supports migrating workloads without re-platforming or changing hypervisors
  • Provides a step-by-step workflow for provisioning and configuring environments
  • Currently supports VCF 5.2.1 and i4i.metal instances
  • Integrates with solutions like Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP

The service is designed as a "primitive service" that allows customers to run VMware workloads on AWS while maintaining their existing tools and skillsets.
